"Does the Criminal Justice System Need to be Overhauled?"

4
The Criminal Justice system doesn’t need to be overhauled, it just needs improvement at times. For instance, the case with Ronald Cotton with a lack of DNA testing should have been done right away. Although it is said “innocent until proven guilty” it is like just the opposite at times in a court room because of the concern about letting someone dangerous possibly run the streets. There are several cases that go through the criminal justice system and of course all of them need a fair trial but sometimes mistake are going to be made because goodness only knows that not everybody is perfect. It’s interesting how cotton is a household name now because of 60 minutes and the Oprah Winfrey show.
Today, thanks to the power of DNA evidence, media coverage and the establishment of innocence projects, there is general acceptance that wrongful convictions indeed occur. Dozens of states have passed laws to prevent wrongful convictions and compensate those wrongly imprisoned.
I feel bad for the individuals who are wrongly put in prison because their life often turns out sad for them. Sometime the criminal justice system isn’t fair as it seems when people are concerned about getting the incorrectly-minded individuals off the street. The case with Darryl Burton is doubly interesting. It is said to say that mistakes of all kinds are made that ruins life but it does support the fact that it is better to be safe than sorry. After serving 24 years of a murder he did not commit finally Darryl Burton was released.

· Thesis: An Overhaul of the CJ System is Not Needed.
· Evidence: There are several apparent cases that go through the court system and a court room. It is sad to say that not all of them are perfect.
· The article has a very high and appropriate merit for the subject. The examples of wrong convictions by the criminal justice system are very clear. The article is factual. Several cases were included that set the example. Very helpful and not prejudiced at all.
